ENHANCING PERSPECTIVE WITH
COLOR & LIGHT

level: beginning and continuing watercolorists

The focus is to enhance your perspective skills with the use of COLOR and LIGHT. We will look at watercolor special effects and review color harmony. Learn to diminish pure color as it recedes into the distance. If you missed aspects of creating successful three dimensions in your paintings, we will review those.

Continue mastering “perspective” in your watercolors. Making preliminary small watercolor sketches will assist in creating successful paintings. Remember Leonardo’s great use of light and dark contrast creates extraordinary results. “Practice makes perfect”….so, on we go with mastering drama in the landscape and still life perspectives.

Focus is on instruction in Chinese style watercolor painting techniques. Demonstrations and personal critiques by the instructor help students master this age-old medium. Students will be responsible for acquiring personal painting supplies (approximately $50). Materials list provided upon registration.

special note: You may drop-in this class for $12 per class if space allows. If you do not have any Chinese brush painting supplies, you may purchase a brush and rice paper from instructor for $10.

Come experience drawing from a live model. Class is self-directed, each week focusing on a different part of the anatomy. Critiques of student work made upon request to the instructor. Emphasis is on gesture poses, short poses, ending with 20 minute poses. Please bring paper and drawing materials to class.

There’s more to the classical still life than just a pretty paint job! Learn about the symbolism behind the subjects of classical still life, while constructing your own dramatic work of art! We’ll go in depth with value and lighting, as well as the grid systems used by the old masters. Beginning and advanced students welcome! Materials list provided at registration.

Learn watercolor basics in this 5 week beginner’s course. The class will be based on direct observation from life and still-life. As such, the dynamics of visual perception along with activation of the right-brain faculties will be explored along with the practice of mixing and applying watercolors upon a paper surface. Materials list given at registration.

Designed for absolute beginners and those wishing to improve their painting skills. Anyone who can hold a pencil can learn to draw with some degree of proficiency. With your commitment, you can and will! Drawing skills are essential to all artists, be it ceramics, glass or painting. Primary emphasis is on seeing, using right-brain techniques. Materials list given at first class.

Learn the art of China painting–embellishing your pottery or ceramic pieces with an over glaze paint.
This class will cover the basics in technique and an introduction to paints and practices. Continuing
students can have a chance to work on projects and pick up new tips.

NOTE Drop-in students welcome for a fee of 12 dollars per day(checks only), paints, some brushes and oil medium available for use.
