REPORTAGE DRAWING SERIES: CLOTHED FIGURE DRAWING

Level: Beginning & Advanced
 

Reportage drawing is a way to report on-site through images. In this class you will learn to become confident with line drawing. We will build your speed and endurance to draw for a longer time, capturing as much detail as possible. This is a form of drawing that will help illustrators, animators, caricature and portrait artists, people in fine art, as well as still life and figure drawing artists. Good also for those who are looking to begin to explore drawing!


In this workshop you will learn to see and draw the human form in shapes as well as a whole. Part of the process will be learning how to draw folds and drapery on the figure. We will be looking at drawings from artists of various time periods and incorporating them into our work. There will be short and long poses (1-20mins). Lecture, methods and techniques introduced in this workshop are geared toward building and developing a fearless approach to creating art in any medium. Materials list given upon registration. Bring a sack lunch.

RIVETING WORKSHOP

The art of cold connection (connecting pieces together without the use of a torch or solder). In this one day class learn the ins and outs of joining metal to leather, fabric, metal or paper. Go home with a one of a kind piece. Beginners welcome! Bring a bag lunch.

PMC LEAVES

Love nature? Love Jewelry? Bring both together in this sliver leaf class. Students will learn how to apply PMC (Precious Metal Clay) to leaves and other objects of nature to have finished pieces of jewelry. Instructor will provide all materials including appropriate leaves.

ENAMELING ON PMC

If you’ve ever wanted to embellish metal with color, enameling is for you. Enameling on PMC is a two-day intensive workshop in which you will learn how to construct of a piece (or pieces) of metal clay, incorporate texture techniques, understand finishing and trouble shooting, and learn about enamels of colors suitable for metal clay, then fire enamels to your pieces. INTERMEDIATE CHAIN MAKING
instructor David Casella
Level: Intermediate

This continuation course will elaborate on chain design techniques learned in the Beginning Chain Making workshop or students who have a working knowledge of chain making. Specifically, students will fuse and solder jump rings, hammer forge links, create more complex Etruscan weaves, Thai weaves, and discuss patterning with mixed metals. We will discuss chain design options, as well as look at samples before starting projects. If you feel ready to incorporate gold into your work bring your own 22K gold round wire in 20 gauge, you will need a minimum of 3 feet to get started fine silver and copper wire will be provided. Materials fee includes all materials and tools necessary to work on your projects.

THERMOFAX INSTANT SCREENPRINTING
Instructor: Joy Lily

 

Learn to image and assemble instant small screens (up to 8” x 10”) of your own simple designs using a Thermofax machine. Print t-shirts, table linens, fabric for sewing/ quilting, greeting cards and bumper stickers. Make scatter prints, print rainbow color prints. Learn 2 color registration and experiment with bleaching color out of dark fabric with these versatile screens. Inks are colorfast on fabric. $20 supply fee. BYO fabrics.

METAL TEXTURE & FORMING
instructor Erik James
Level: Intermediate

PREREQUISITE Use of jewelers saw & knowledge of
sweat soldering.

Enjoy two days of learning how to use the Rolling Mill to imprint textures on to nonferrous or “soft” sheet metal. As well as using the Hydraulic Press to press the textured metal into a prescribed shape that the student will learn how to make out of an acrylic die. This class is designed for students with some prior knowledge in metal arts.

CERAMIC RAINSTICKS
Instructor: Erik James

In this 2 day workshop students will learn how to hand build a number of ceramic rainsticks. Using both slab rolling and coiling techniques. We will then finely smooth the surface of the instruments with a process called’ “burnishing”. The instructor, will then bisque fire the students work. The second day will be dedicated to smoking the fired pieces in sawdust and other combustible materials to create a beautiful and unexpected finish. The instruments will be taken home the second day. Clay to be bought day of class for $10; all other tools provided.
