glass to make your own one of a kind jewelry. Class will cover fusing irid glass, dichroic glass, silver foil, glass etching and much more. Materials fee covers all glass and supplies for class.

LEATHER BASICS: CUFFS & BRACELETS

Level Beginning & Intermediate

Love leather? Want to try a new medium? The central focus of this class will be to create and design leather cuffs and bracelets. Participants will learn to cut, emboss and decorate leather, using tools and assorted leather punches provided. Students are welcome to bring and use pmc and fused glass from other classes to incorporate in decorative design. You will go home with a one of a kind piece/s. No previous instruction needed.

HANDS WORKSHOP

A “hands on” sculpture workshop designed to teach artists the anatomy of the hands through a variety of exercises, culminating in the casting of your own hand in plaster. Knowledge is power! Get over your fear of representing these forms in your paintings, drawings, and sculptures by learning their anatomy and structure. By exploring the varied and, yes, complex forms of these most elegant and expressive parts of the body you will gain new respect and confidence in your work. Students will leave the class with a plaster cast of their own hand, paper and drawn models of the hand, and a study booklet of the anatomy of the hands.

INTRODUCTION TO COLD PROCESS SOAPMAKING
Instructor Joan Morais

Join certified aromatherapist and natural product formulator Joan Morais as she demonstrates the basics of traditional cold process soap making using all-natural herbs and essential oils. Students will participate hands-on in handling and packaging soap, but due to the chemicals used in the process, the soap making itself is demonstration only. Students will leave with a bar of soap and the knowledge of how to make soap at home. Joan’s 34-page manual (including 27 photos) entitled How to Make Handmade Soap; Cold Process Soap Making will be available for purchase to all participants at a specially discounted price.

BASIC PEN & INK

This class is for anyone who loves to draw or doodle with a pen. Perfect for beginners. We will scribble, doodle, contour draw, and learn the “Big Four” classical markings for shade and shadow. We will focus on techniques and tools suitable for quick field studies and travel journaling. Materials list given at registration.

COLORED PENCILS: CAPTURING NATURAL FORMS
Instructor: Mary Harden

Colored pencils are inexpensive, easy to use and simple to transport. A large variety of colored pencils from different manufactures will be provided for your use during the workshop, so that you can discover the differences and find which
pencils you prefer. We will learn and practice the techniques of layering, burnishing, and “etching” for vibrant effects. Then we will apply these techniques to capture the tones and textures of a colorful plant subject that participants bring to the workshop.

QUILL PEN MAKING

Scribblers, doodlers and drawers! Here’s a new class just for you. Learn to fashion and use a real feather quill pen. You will make several pens with different points and learn to use the “big four” classical pen markings to draw a subject from life of your own choosing. You will learn how to temper your quill and how to master your stroke. You will discover that the quill pen is a superior tool for drawing, mark making and calligraphy.

BEADWORKING WITH HUIB PETERSEN:
"CATHERINE" RUSSIAN BEADLACE

Instructor: Huib Petersen
Level: Beginning & Intermediate

In this one-day workshop with bead artist Huib Petersen, you will learn to make the “Catherine” Russian beadlace. This bead work, originating from Russia, is made up from small components: leaves and starflowers. These are then stitched together, and here’s where your own creativity comes in. The possibilities are endless, from a simple necklace to whole pieces of clothing. It all depends on how you decide to connect the pieces. The leaves are stitched with increases on one, and decrease on the other side, which gives your work all the advantages of fabric cut on the bias. The workshop is designed to be accessible for
beginners, but also offers new skills for those already familiar with peyote stitch.

HOLLOW FORMS & MULTIPLES
Instructor: David Casella
Level: Intermediate

PREREQUISITE The class is designed for students
with prior basic jewelry instruction.

Students will learn the art of cutting their own plastic and how to push metal sheet into the die using the hydraulic press. This technique allows student to create the same shape over and over again. Possibilities inclue making a hollow formed pendant, multiple pendants along a chain, a top to a box or a pair of earrings. You will also learn various surface treatments of the sheet, fabrication of hollow forms, and creative connections to chains. Students will be working with copper and brass sheet and wire and will learn skills in cutting, sanding, roll printing, soldering, fabrication, finishing and design.

CLOISONNE ON FINE SILVER

PREREQUISTE Previous enameling experience preferred. Design and create a small cloisonné piece for jewelry or small artwork while learning to use the rich, subtle, and distinctive colors of
transparent and opalescent enamels on fine silver. Painterly shading techniques and high-gloss polishing instruction will be covered.
