Instructor: Katie Smart

18Y & up

$75 Member, $100 Non-Member

When you think of water based paints, you might only think of watercolor and maybe acrylic. But the truth is, there are a wide variety of possibilities including watercolor pencils, water soluble crayons and pastels, ink, and more. The diversity of mark making and the changeable nature of those marks offer much to explore. This is a process based class that prioritizes experimentation as a way to let go of perfectionism. Only happy accidents here! We will do several quick studies and then use our favorite ideas and techniques to make a large work on 350 weight cold press paper. All materials provided.

Trace Monotypes

Instructor: Liz Schiff

1 Wednesday, 2/5, 11:00 PM-3:00 PM

18Y & up

$112 Member, $137 Non-Member

In this workshop you will learn the basic steps of the trace monotype process. This easy printing technique is called "trace monotype" because you trace the desired image on the back of the paper. The act of tracing the image transfers the ink to the paper, creating a one-of-a-kind print. In this workshop we will be using non-toxic, water-soluble printing inks. Prints will be hand-pulled without a press. No previous printing experience is needed. Materials provided. Students are encouraged to bring simple line drawings, photographs, or other simple imagery sized for a 6x9 plate. (Other images to trace will also be available in class.)

Trees of San Francisco

Instructor: Jessica Kiever

2 Saturdays, 3/1-3/8, 10:00 AM-1:00 PM

18Y & up

$174 Member, $199 Non-Member

In this workshop, students will learn how to paint with oil in a non-toxic/sustainable way, while gaining a new appreciation for the trees in San Francisco - who will be serving as our muse for the class activity. We will do an overview of oil paints as a medium, their history, and a quick overview of color theory. Then diving right in, students will be guided on how to use paint brushes and a palette knife to create their own unique version of a tree of San Francisco (provided by the teacher). This workshop is perfect for both beginners and intermediate artists who want to learn the basics of oil painting, sharpen their eye for detail, all while focusing on one of the magnificent trees of San Francisco. By the end of the workshop, students will have a new set of oil painting skills and the proof to show for it! Their ready to frame piece of art will make for a great gift or home décor addition! 8"x10" canvas, palettes, palette knives, and cleaning materials provided. Students will be required to bring paint set and brushes, and be encouraged to bring an apron or wear clothes to get messy in. Please see materials list for what is required to bring to the workshop.
